Let me tell all you readers a little story. One fine morning while I was scuffling my way to third period, I stumbled upon a pack of scantily clad girls. Now, me being like every other teenage girl in America, the first thing I looked at was their clothes, starting with shirts and ending with stilettos. All five of the elites were wearing some shade of pink, accompanied with bulky accessories and perfectly teased hair. As I was making my way down to the shoes, a very disturbing image caused my high heel check to come to a halt. The herd wasn’t wearing any pants!
In a state of shock, I quickly diverted my eyes, feeling like I saw an overwhelming amount of skin that I had no desire to see. Even though I felt like I had been grossly exposed, I had to look back to see if they were really living my nightmare of forgetting to wear pants to school. As I did a double take, I suddenly realized the girls did in fact have a tiny square of denim covering a portion of their lower body. So tiny, that I saw the inside of their pockets hanging beneath the cuff of their “shorts”.
I’m sure that experience has happened to many other female students here at FMHS. You’re minding your own business, walking down the halls then bam! Some girl, wearing not nearly enough fabric, walks by, and it’s distracting…in a wow-is-that-girl-naked kind of way. Sure, the guys probably don’t mind it, and that, I’m guessing, is the whole idea of sporting the extremely short shorts. I know that most girls want attention from boys, and with teenage girls knowing that guys pay extra-close attention to half naked women, why not dress like that at school? I’ll tell you why:
1. IT’S NOT ALLOWED. Remember that pep assembly at the beginning of the year? “Finger tip length”, not elbow length.
2. It’s plain gross.
3. It’s a sign of low self esteem and gives a big OK to being treated as a sex object by the guys.
Girls, you should have a little respect for yourselves. It’s possible to still look cute without showing every inch of skin to the world. I hear neon colors are coming back, so why not go all-out with eighties style by sporting some nice parachute pants? They’re roomy, and provide plenty of coverage.
