Lacrosse the Valley

By Ellen Gaglione, Reporter

Really big news: the Grand Valley finally has a full-functioning, CHSAA recognized lacrosse league. Boys have been playing for a few years now, but this is the year for girls to step it up and show ‘em who’s boss. Every girl needs to know how to handle a stick, and really, who doesn’t want to play a brutal contact sport? No one should miss out on this. Sign up and get out there on the field.

Here’s what you need to do:
•Register online at grandvalleylax.com
(The required registration fee is $130)

•Then, register with the athletic office of the school you attend
(The District #51 Athletic Fee will cost $70)

•All players are responsible for their own equipment. It varies based on age and gender, so check the website to know exactly what you need.

•Scholarships are available for the registration fees and for the equipment costs. (Awesome!!) Apply on the website.

•Practices start on February 17!

For high school girls, the season will consist of at least twelve games and then an entrance into the playoffs. Home games will be played at canyon View Park and the away games will be in Vail, Durango, and Glenwood Springs. The team will be stationed out of Fruita Monument, but the girls will be from all schools.

Really, this couldn’t be any more fun. So, grab your best friend and your cleats and I will definitely see you out there.
